As many of our customers know, the summer season is the time when NET1Plus performs major maintenance and upgrades to our network and hosting infrastructure. We perform the work during the summer because the business Internet usage tends to be a bit lower than usual due to summer vacations and the close of many corporate budget cycles.
Below is a brief overview of the projects NETPlus is currently working on. In the coming weeks we will be providing more specific information about the progress of these projects through this blog and through our iContact Newsletter and Announcement System. If you have not already subscribed to our Newsletters and Announcements you can do so here.
Network Migration and Consolidation
We will continue with our network migrations and consolidation that we started last July. We completed about 50% of that project late this past winter and will be completing the remaining portion through June, July and if necessary August. Customers that are impacted by these changes are contacted directly by email and telephone.
IP Address Changes
As part of meeting our requirements with the American Registry or Internet Numbers (ARIN), and to ensure a robust and scalable network moving forward, NET1Plus is renumbering out of our legacy IP address space and into our direct allocation IP space from ARIN. Customers impacted by these changes are also contacted directly.
Data Center Expansion and Relocation
Due to our continued growth, and to a more significant degree our customer's demand for SAS70 Compliant Data Center Services, NET1Plus has secured additional Data Center Space at 70 Inner Belt Road in Somerville, MA. Beginning in July NET1Plus will begin migrating all mission-critical infrastructure to the Inner Belt Facility. Customers that will be impacted by this relocation will be contacted directly to coordinate the relocation of their equipment. We will also be providing more details about the new data center as we move forward.
DNS Server Changes
As part of the IP Renumbering and the Data Center Expansion NET1Plus will be upgrading our current DNS servers and adding several new DNS servers.
In the past the NET1Plus DNS Servers have been used for answering general client DNS queries as well as for providing DNS Record Hosting. Although this approach has been quite reliable and without any significant issues, it is not the best method of providing both of the services.
To provide for more robust DNS Services, NET1Plus will be introducing 4 New Private Client Query Servers that will be for the exclusive use of NET1Plus Connectivity Subscribers, as well as Co-Location and Dedicate Server customers.
We will also be establishing 3 New DNS Hosting Servers that will be dedicated to DNS Record Hosting and will not provide general client query services. These are the servers that customers will use as the DNS Server entries at their Domain Name Registrar as the authoritive servers for their Domain/Web Hosting Records.
Adding 3 Additional GigE Internet Bandwidth Feeds and 6 Tier 1 Carriers
As part of the Data Center Expansion we have also expanded our redundant Internet Connections to accomodate more bandwidth and increased peering. NET1Plus will now be connected to at least 6 Tier 1 Carriers through 3 GigE Connections.
